Straža is a small town and a municipality in southeastern Slovenia. It lies on the left bank of the river Krka in the traditional region of Lower Carniola. The municipality was created in 2006 when it split from Novo Mesto. The municipality is now included in the Southeast Slovenia statistical region. The town itself has close to 2000 inhabitants with over 3500 in the entire municipality. The main employer is the company Novoles, based in the town as well as a number od smaller companies. There are many vineyards in the area.[2]
There are two churches in the settlement. One is dedicated to Saint Thomas and belongs to the Vavta vas parish. It is a medieval building that was restyled in the Baroque in the late 17th century.[3] The second is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and belongs to the Prečna parish. It dates to the late 17th century.[4]
